Between October 2007 and March 2008, more than 1,000 shelters across America participated in the first Zootoo.com Shelter Makeover Contest. Shelters earned points by the number of their supporters who logged on to Zootoo.com—the pet lover's website—to review products, post photos, or comment on pet news items.
When the tallying was completed, Stray Rescue of St. Louis was the big winner. In addition, the first runner-up—Humane Society of the Ohio Valley—will receive $20,000, and the second runner-up—SPCA of Jefferson County, NY—will receive $10,000. Seventeen other high-ranking shelters were awarded $6,000.
"A major goal of the Zootoo.com Shelter Makeover Program is to generate national and local awareness of animal shelters and to encourage community involvement," said Richard Thompson, founder of Zootoo.com. The PEDIGREE Adoption Drive Foundation is proud to have been a principal partner in this important effort. "As a supporter of shelter and breed rescues, this partnership was a natural fit," said John Anton, a board member of The PEDIGREE Adoption Drive Foundation and marketing director of PEDIGREE® Brand.
