Second Chance Animal Services Gave One to Harper, and She Now Has a Forever Home
Hi! I’m Harper. My shelter, Second Chance Animal Services, thought I needed a little extra training before they put me up for adoption, so they put me in their Project Good Dog program. It pairs shelter dogs with inmates at three local correctional facilities. The folks there work with us on socialization, behavior and training, based on our specific needs. (See more here.)
The program also provides foster care for some of my pet friends who have medical problems that need to be addressed before they can be adopted – like skin infections that require medicated baths three times a week. They take great care of us!
And with their help…guess what happened. I was adopted! Now I have a wonderful, loving forever home.

I love my new pawrents. And I think they’re pretty happy with me, too. I heard them say, “Harper is doing great!! We feel super lucky to have her. She’s acclimated great to our house and the neighborhood. We’ve been taking her to the dog park by our house and up to Mt. Tom a bunch. She’s clearly well liked everywhere she goes! And folks we’ve met have been excited to hear about the program.”
Thanks to Second Chance Animal Services, I really did get a second chance. And I think the inmates that helped me might have gotten something out of it too. SCAS, with support from PEDIGREE Foundation, is making a real difference in the lives of pets in need – like me!
Every dollar given to PEDIGREE Foundation supports shelters and rescues helping dogs in need. Together, we’re working to end pet homelessness. Whether it’s funds to help provide a bag of food or contribute to a life-changing surgery, your gift helps save lives! Donate here.
