On August 17, 2022, PEDIGREE Foundation hosted a free webinar in conjunction with PEDIGREE brand’s Essential Support Dogs Safety Net Grants program. The webinar featured national animal welfare leader Kristen Hassen discussing best practices for implementing safety net programs as described in the Human Animal Support Services (HASS) Safety Net Toolkit.
Pet owners are struggling like never before. This year, animal shelters/rescues have been inundated with requests for help from people who face barriers in keeping their pets: inability to find pet-friendly housing, veterinary expenses, temporary life crises, and inability to pay for supplies.
In this webinar, Kristen Hassen walked through the HASS Safety Net Toolkit and shared the basics of helping people keep their pets instead of taking them to shelters. This toolkit is intended to make pet support program implementation accessible to everyone – regardless of the size and budget of your organization. It can also be utilized by just about anyone who wants to build more support services for pets and people in their community, including all levels of shelter professionals. Included is how-to information on safety net foster programs, access to care and resources, and helping pet owners secure pet-inclusive, affordable housing.
